Finding the link between Trance and Orchestral music

Written by Katrina Merca on . Posted in Home, Spotlight

Trance is an extraordinary genre of electronic music: one that attracts a rather limited amount of listeners, but keeps them for a really long time while building a loyal fanbase – better known as Trance Family -, and that is what makes this genre so special for its followers. At the same time, there are some other genres of music, both different and similar to Trance – Orchestral and Instrumental music, especially part of nowadays’ Soundtrack music (which you can hear in different movies and series). The most interesting fact is that there is a lot – not only – of listeners, but also producers, who love both of these genres, and to some extent it pushes you to ask the million-dollar question – why is it so?

Blastoyz + Friends vol.1: is psy-trance the future of trance?

Written by Luciano Medica on . Posted in Home

What if we created music to have something to relate to, beyond reality and beyond the burden of everyday life’s problems? Then we would be creating psytrance… and that is precisely what Blastoyz has being doing. For Blastoyz + Friends vol.1, he teamed up with Upgrade, Bizarre Contact, Azax and Berg, and the result is out of this world.

It is vox populi that Israel has a particular relationship with psy-trance, up to the point one cannot think of one without the other. It is a synergic relationship to the point that quite a few of the best psy-trance producers come from Israel, including Astrix a.k.a. as King of Psy-trance, Vini Vici and Ace Ventura.

This relationship between this small historical country of our humanity covers a side of trance mixed with psychedelics like no other place in the world. Perhaps, it tells us much more about Israel than it seems: in a land that has been ravaged by violence throughout the years, music has to live up to it.

Every year that passes I’ve gotta admit it, Asia doesn’t attract many big trance festivals which we hoped for. We can only envy events in Europe, South America, USA and Australia where there are countless of massive events. Last week, for the very first time in Asia, Spunite Productions organized a truly memorable event, FSOE 450 Kingdoms, in Kaohsiung Taiwan. Before this FSOE it was turn of LA, USA; Manchester, UK & Luxor, Egypt. Only 4 cities were announced to host these 450 celebrations. 3 months ago was being announced while many trance lovers from all over Asian countries were static hearing this so naturally, I wasn’t gonna miss this occasion.

The Digital Blonde: “I don’t see myself as a DJ and never have”

What happens when two generations of DJs come together for collaboration? Magic.

While many producers are getting closer to the EDM bounty, Standerwick and Chris Schweizer have provided their bold statement that trance is alive and going strong.

In a world where EDM seems to be dominating, with a decreasing amount of creativity when it comes to producing new tracks; the moment two producers join forces to create a massive trance tune which actually sounds original, it feels like a breath of fresh air. This is the case of ‘Predator’, born as collaboration between British legend Standerwick and Argentinian ‘promise’ Chris Schweizer.

Just take me back to the Old School… or maybe not?

Written by Luciano Medica on . Posted in Home

Following his belief in “not to be a prisoner of your own style”, Armin van Buuren is releasing today ‘Old Skool’, a mini album with old school tracks, reworks of the music that made him step into electronic music but… will this trigger a revival or is it just a temporary fad?

We have seen along the years that many DJs have been experimenting with different styles, not always with the same amount of success.

Some artists have built their careers out of experimenting with music, while some others have stayed faithful to their original choice. Truth to be told, the path of producing music is about creativity and innovation.

The advent of daredevil raids towards different genres far beyond the boundaries of the DJ’s regular style, have also given birth to a group of purist fans complaining towards anything that lies beyond traditional or expectable.

At the time Tiësto migrated into EDM and Pulsar gave up on Trance music because the industry was heading somewhere somehow where nobody would follow, we witnessed different approaches to that natural change and dynamism. And change is not a bad thing per se.

“Family is the cornerstone of everything you are and what you do. Music is great, music is my other family as well but… your family will always be there for you. No matter if you’re successful, if you’re not successful, if you’re hard working or not so hard working – your family will always be there for you.” – Armin van Buuren
